Embracing vulnerability is the scariest shit in the word. Being vulnerable means entertaining the truth and dancing intimately with your reality. At the beginning of 2015, vulnerability showed up in my world, like an unwanted house guest admittedly knocking at the door. I truly don’t know why I was so surprised because, vulnerability was something I unconsciously spoke into existence on my 2015 vision board.
As a result, in 2015 I have been living my truth, and feeling emotions that I have tried to suppress. Being vulnerable is not an easy challenge, and I am constantly reminded of this… especially when my anxiety takes things to a whole another level.
And lately it seems like I have been encountering many situations where I have had to wear my vulnerability like a badge of honor saying, “I am who I am, whether people like it or not”.
So far my moments of vulnerability have included:
- Being vulnerable when it comes to being in a relationship and learning how to love.
- Being vulnerable when it comes to trying new things.
- Being vulnerable when it comes to embracing my authentic self.
- Being vulnerable when it comes to truly feeling my emotions and being conscious of how I feel at the moment.
- Being vulnerable when it comes to speaking my mind.
- Being vulnerable when it comes to taking time for myself and not apologizing for it.
My list of vulnerable moments can go on and on, but what is sweet about my vulnerable moments is seeing the personal growth that I have made. Research professor Brene Brown was correct, there is power in vulnerability. My power from simply being vulnerable is starting to change my perspective and causing me to take more risks. Even though I am scared as shit while taking those risks.
If you haven’t welcomed vulnerability into your life I truly suggest you give it a try.
Until next time…
