20 Days of Peach: Day Four… Layover Chronicles

March 4, 2020

Hope your prepared. Now starts all the blog posts about my Bali Holiday. Getting to Bali was a long journey. It took over 40 hours. I flew to Bali with my cousin Azjia (pictured to the right). The long journey to Bali was because of flight delays. We flew from Arizona to New York. From New York to Qatar and Qatar to Bali. Every flight of our trip was delayed beyond what we expected. My advice for long layovers…

  1. Research each destination ahead of time.
  2. Determine activities you can do during your layover.
  3. Pack extra clothes in your carry-on bag. Most international airports have showers.
  4. Get an extra passport stamp en-route to your destination if possible.

We made the most out of our flight delays. When we finally arrived in Qatar, we were determined to be out in the Doha streets. We had seven hours to explore. After going through several rounds of security to get another passport stamp, we took the city transit system and visited the National Museum of Qatar.

Btw, the public transit is very nice. The men in Qatar are beautiful. Also, I saw more Black people in Qatar than I have in Arizona. Here are a few pictures from over layover experience in Doha.

Vacation Is Necessary

February 17, 2020

Vacation! Vacation is necessary. We all need breaks from daily responsibilities. Daily responsibilities often trick people into believing we’re not supposed to take a vacation. Whether it’s because of finances, no babysitter, no paid time off… the excuse we use for not taking a trip leads to insanity. Taking time off helps us to re-charge. Use that PTO. Find a babysitter. Organize your finances. Take time off!

Truth be told, I would much rather spend my money on traveling than buying material items. Think about it…for every expensive item bought that’s a trip I could be taking. Traveling brings memorable experiences. Seeing the world and experiencing different cultures improves our overall well-being. I prefer international travel but when I can’t get out of America I will visit hidden gems near by.

For those of you that are interested in traveling here are some tools that have helped me so far…

  • Follow social media accounts and hashtags for the places you want to visit.
  • Watch travel vlogs on YouTube.
  • Find affordable flight options:
    • Airfordable
    • Google flights
    • Uplift.com
    • Funjet.com
  • Create a Google Doc packing list
  • Create a Google Doc itinerary.
  • Still take the trip even if no one wants to go with you.

I’ll keep you all updated on my travel adventures…as I am currently vacationing right now.

Until Next Time…

Destination Series: Southern Peach

Hey-hey,

This summer was on of the best summers I have ever had in a really long time. Although, there were many life changing moments that happened. Every moment was worth it! Having the time to travel and experience life outside of my day-to-day regimen was something I needed. From Phoenix-Denver-Iowa-Chicago-Birmingham-Atlanta I learned a lot about myself and surprisingly my family heritage (I share about this in another blog post).

From my summer travels here are five simple things I learned:

  1. Be more risk taking- Explore things that you necessarily wouldn’t if you where in the comforts of your home town.
  2. Randomly strike up a conversation- You never known who you will meet, and it always interesting to hear peoples life stories.
  3. Eat what you want- Its a vacation for crying out loud!
  4. Enjoy the people you travel with- Whether its family or friends, spending time with the people you love is a luxury. Don’t take it for granted, every day is not promised!
  5. Make time for meditation- Centering yourself when traveling from place-to-place will help to make the vacation experience more rewarding and positive.
