Health In 2020: Going Plant Based

February 24, 2020

In 2017, I went vegetarian. Fast forward, almost three years later I still don’t eat meat. Every now and then I crave fish. Being honest, I can’t bring myself to eat fish. Every time, I attempt to eat fish, I think about a fish’s eyes and chicken out.

Becoming a vegetarian was never a part of my plan. It started as a challenge and I never looked back. I don’t regret not eating meat. I don’t really see myself eating meat again. However, I will say this… if I wake up the next day and crave/eat meat, I won’t beat myself up about it.

Now on my health journey…I have gone plant based. Plant based focuses on eating fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts/seeds, and legumes. I have cut out dairy from my diet. I noticed by body was not responding well to dairy. I have been lactose intolerant since I was a child. All the dairy I had consumed for 30 plus years, finally caught up with me.

I have been eating plant based for 30 days. I don’t miss eggs, but I do miss cheese. No vegan cheese on the market compares to regular cheese. If anyone knows of good vegan cheeses, please let me know. Cutting out dairy has done wonders. My skin glows. I have more energy. I have less mental fog. My anxiety has decreased.

The only drawback I’m experiencing is food options on the go. Before leaving home, I must be fully prepared with meals. Going plant based is something I wish I would have considered some time ago. I am still researching meals and figuring out what will work for me.

For those of you who are plant based or vegan, what tips do you suggest for us newbies on the journey?

Until Next Time…

Vacation Is Necessary

February 17, 2020

Vacation! Vacation is necessary. We all need breaks from daily responsibilities. Daily responsibilities often trick people into believing we’re not supposed to take a vacation. Whether it’s because of finances, no babysitter, no paid time off… the excuse we use for not taking a trip leads to insanity. Taking time off helps us to re-charge. Use that PTO. Find a babysitter. Organize your finances. Take time off!

Truth be told, I would much rather spend my money on traveling than buying material items. Think about it…for every expensive item bought that’s a trip I could be taking. Traveling brings memorable experiences. Seeing the world and experiencing different cultures improves our overall well-being. I prefer international travel but when I can’t get out of America I will visit hidden gems near by.

For those of you that are interested in traveling here are some tools that have helped me so far…

  • Follow social media accounts and hashtags for the places you want to visit.
  • Watch travel vlogs on YouTube.
  • Find affordable flight options:
    • Airfordable
    • Google flights
    • Uplift.com
    • Funjet.com
  • Create a Google Doc packing list
  • Create a Google Doc itinerary.
  • Still take the trip even if no one wants to go with you.

I’ll keep you all updated on my travel adventures…as I am currently vacationing right now.

Until Next Time…

Happy Black History Month!

February 10, 2020

Happy Black History Month beautiful ones. I know we are a week and some change into Black History Month. I didn’t want more time to past without acknowledging Black History Month.

Yoooooo (in my voice). I love being Black. LOVE being Black. Black people are magical. We are strong! We are resilient! We are trendsetters! We are diverse! We are candid! We are funny! We are beautiful! We are everything!

From our kinky coils too our saucy swag, we illuminate even when people try to dim our light. I’m proud to be Black! In the words of Issa Rae, “I rooting for everybody Black.” I will be celebrating Black History Month this year. I’ve been celebrating Black History Month since I was young. In fact…

I remember one year in elementary school, I told the teacher I was upset with her because she celebrated every holiday/event but never celebrated Black History Month. Very next day, the classroom was decorated and we talked about the impact and necessity of Black people in the world.

Black people let’s use this month and every month after to celebrate ourselves, heal ourselves, and move our culture forward (Black people doing right by Black people). If your in the Arizona area and want to celebrate Black History Month, here are some events I found online:

  • Black Theatre Troupe in Phoenix: http://new-wp.blacktheatretroupe.org/trouble-in-mind/
  • Brophy Black History Month Festival: https://www.brophyprep.org/about/parents/brophy-black-family-alliance
  • Brunch Ish: https://brunchishdayparty.com/
  • Film Screening The Brother From Another Planet: https://live-timely-fzn9b7gebi.time.ly/event/film-screening-the-brother-from-another-planet/?instance_id=11126

  • Paint & Sip Luv Week: https://www.iamrootco.com/events-1/paint-sip-luv-week

No More Wasted Summers: What Death Has Taught Me…

February 3, 2020

Death. Death is inevitable. We all know we can’t run or escape death. When it is our time, it is our time. This past week, I thought a lot about death. The tragic and untimely death of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and the seven other passengers in the helicopter was devastating.

It was a devastation to me, to people close to me, and the world. The energetic vibration this past week has been at a grief frequency. It seems like death has been luring around. From the passing of my brother’s wife, to my students loosing loved ones… death continues to show up. Thinking about death, I have so many question but no answers. Moving forward, I only have one solution.

No wasted summers!

No wasted summers is a term I learned from the Deon Cole comedy special Cole Hearted on Netflix. Cole got the “wasted summers” expression from Jennifer Lewis. Wasted summers means…we only have so much time before we die, so we better live it up! Hence, stop wasting your summer.

In this past week, death has reiterated to me…we all have only so many summers left! Summers is a candid metaphor for time. Nobody knows when their going to die. We must life our best life and be of service to others. We need to stop playing around with the time we have available. We need to stop playing with God’s time.

Seeing so much death, I am not wasting my summers. My summers will not being wasted on people, places, and things that don’t serve my upmost vibration. Life is too short. The time we waste on people and things that are not good for us, we loose time. We loose a summer. We can’t get back time.

Just think about it, the time we stay in a relationship to long. Or the time we want to travel and never do. Time we loose wanting to pursue a dream and never act on it. It’s all wasted time. Why waste time? You were hand picked to be here on this very Earth at this moment in time.

Go out into the world. Start living! Live like you are mindful of your time. Start operating from a space where you instinctively know, if you were to die today you lived a fulfilled life. Please people, live your life better and be better to people.

No more wasted summers!

Until Next Time…

Woes of Ascension

January 27, 2020

Ascension. Ascension is an awakening processing intended for helping you move to a higher frequency. The overall goal of ascension is to help you evolve into a new frequency of expanded consciousness. To ascend it requires discipline, healing, releasing, and solitude. Today I wanted to connect with you all about the recent woes I’m experiencing in my ascension process.

Many of you who have followed my blog have witnessed my ascension journey first hand. I would say my ascension started back in 2016. My blog posts are reflective of said ascension. As of lately, the solitude aspect of ascension has been a pain point. When it comes to solitude…let me be clear, I don’t have a problem with being alone. I can be alone and not feel lonely. I repeat, I can be alone and not feel lonely. This a beautiful energetic space for me to be in because it was not always this way.

The solitude aspect of ascension I am referring to is elevation and separation. As I continue to elevate, I have gained an awareness in knowing everyone cannot make it to the next level with me. It is what it is. My woe in the current moment is the lack of support from the people who “should be” supporting you the most when it comes to trying new ventures. Hence, limited support leads to separation because a person chooses to do something different. In return, choosing to do something different elevates this person to a new level. Lack of support can lead to solitude.

It is hurtful when the support is not received. Yet, there is peace in knowing that the limited support is divine elimination. Divine elimination ultimately happens when your mission in life is far grander than the people you are around. This is not to say that everyone is not supportive. But it is to say, divine elimination forces you to do a SWAT analysis of your life, taking inventory of who really supports you. As I have determined who really supports me, I will forever keep those people close. Those people know who they are.

I say all this to say, when someone you know is doing something great support them. This especially goes for family and friends. For example, if someone you know has a business…support their business and don’t ask for a discount. Ask how you can help. I have seen a trend in people who don’t know you support endeavors more than your direct support system. Family, friends, and day one’s…don’t wait until the person becomes successful just to say you support them.

The woe in ascending is that not everyone is going to support you. Not everyone is going to be happy for you. Not everyone will want to see you shine. Can’t expect everyone to be supportive if their ego elicits emotions of jealousy or envy. In moments of solitude, you have to be okay with the separation, because eventually the tribe matching your ascension will find you.

Until Next Time…

Destiny…Are you Connected?

January 21, 2020

Life has been teaching me so much. I find myself in this interesting space of being present in the moment, while connecting to the bigger picture of my destiny. My destiny is clear now more than ever. In knowing my destiny, there is a disconnect in certain aspects of my life. The disconnect is reflected in my dis-alignment. There are current aspects of my life that are not aligned with my destiny.

Destiny, is reflective of a predetermined future. To get in complete alignment, you must show up as if the future is already here. To show up you must be willing to rid your environment of things/people that do not fall into alignment of your destiny.

For the dis-alignment I am currently feel, my goal this week is to journal through it. I drafted a few guiding questions. If you’re interested in journaling too, here are a few questions to get you started.

Journal questions:

  1. What is your destiny?
  2. Are you in connection with your destiny?
  3. What is contributing or taking away from your destiny?
  4. Are you in full alignment with your destiny?
  5. If not, what commitment are you will to make to fulfill your destiny?

Until Next Time…

Health In 2020: Sea Moss

January 13, 2020

Happy Monday Beautiful People! Today I wanted to share with you about natural remedy I have been loving, sea moss! I am choosing to now share about sea moss because it has done wonders for my health. Now before you read further, I want to remind you I am not a health professional. I just know what works for my body. If your health is in severe risk, please consult a medical professional.

Alright, back to sea moss.

Sea moss is a nutrient that helps dissolve mucus and inflammation in the body. The human body is comprised of 102, sea moss contains 92 of those minerals. I learned about the benefits of sea moss from Chaka Bars. He goes by @chakabars on Instagram. His company FruitsnRootz sells sea moss and tropical fruits. BTW, FruitnRootz the only place I trust to purchase sea moss from.

I began taking sea moss when I realized there was too much mucus in my system. You know the thick heavy mucus that comes from consuming dairy and sugar. Mucus leads to dis-ease in the body. My bodies dis-ease manifested in rash form. Fun fact about me, when I consume too much dairy my skin breaks out. Inspired by Chaka Bars #7dayseamosschallenge, I figured what can I lose from trying a detox challenge. The detox challenge came and went. Several challenges later, I’ve been consuming sea moss since 2019.

When I consume, sea moss my diet is clean and planet based. Planet based eating is ideal when ridding toxins from the body. From taking sea moss I’ve seen improvements in my skin, mood, cravings, and energy. It’s hard for me to truly describe how sea moss makes me feel. It’s like being on cloud 9 is a healthy-mindful way. Sea moss is the truth!

Now I’m not going to say, “try sea moss”. However, I will encourage you to do your research and determine if sea moss can directly benefit your overall health. If sea moss can serve as a benefit then it is something to consider.

Here’s how I prep my sea moss for consumption:

  1. Let sea moss sit in distilled water for 24-48 hours.
  2. Blend sea moss in blender.
  3. Store sea moss in a glass container.
  4. When ready to consume…mix sea moss with organic unsweetened apple sauce.
  5. Eat!

For those of you familiar with sea moss, what are your favorite ways to blend it?

Until Next Time…
